New member of the team

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

We would just like to say a big hello and welcome to Anne who has just  joined us at penguin HQ last week and will be helping us with our orders over the Christmas season.

I think her mug for the coming weeks should be the Wallace & Gromit Maximum Speed Mug.

Just so she feels reassured we’re not going to work her any harder than she can manage!

’WE’RE AT MAXIMUM SPEED…SHE WON’T GO ANY FASTER’

The Pantone Phenomena

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

The Pantone Colour System has been a renowned authority on colour for more than 47 years and has been an inspiration for design professionals since its development.

The system was created by Lawrence Herbert, in 1963, and he created a system that enabled professionals to identify, match and communicate colours and solve the issue of producing accurate colours within the graphic design industry. His insight that the spectrum is seen and interpreted differently by each individual led to the innovation of the PANTONE® MATCHING SYSTEM®, a book of standardized colour in fan format.

Pantone has continued to expand its colour matching system concept and is now used for example within industry, fashion, home, digital technology and architecture and is a vital tool for these industries for accurate colour communication.

Each year Pantone sell design licensees in over 100 countries and many products are designed based on their system. We love the Pantone mugs with their single block colour bringing simplicity and chic design together.

Mr Men & Little Misses – timeless classics

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

As a child I loved the Mr Men with their simple shapes, characters and personalities. We all had a different favourite, mine being Mr Small with the concept of everything in the world being bigger than yourself, which I suppose is just how a young child views the world.

But Mr Men & Little Misses are timeless classics and my own children loved them in equal measure and my son’s favourite was Mr Bump who he loved pretending to be by bumping into things!

The author of these fabulous books was Roger Hargreaves, born in Cleckheaton, Yorkshire in 1935 and he produced a total of 48 Mr Men books and following his death in 1988 his son Adam produced further books including some unpublished characters his father had created. The 1st Little Miss book was Little Miss Bossy which was published in 1981.

The world of the Mr Men and Little Misses was expanded with the launch of an animated series on television in 1974.

Last Christmas one of our best sellers in our gift range was our Mr Grumpy mug…..not sure what that’s about girls! We love the new aluminium drinks bottles that have just arrived with Mr Messy proving to be a popular choice.

Another set of ‘Spotted’ items this week. On this week ‘s Location Location (which we love!) we spotted three of our fabulous items. The first one we ‘spotted’ was the Cream Enamel Bread Bin and I think the combination of the fab retro look and the neutral colour makes it a really popular choice. And then we ‘spotted’ the eternal favourite Emma Bridgewater Polka Dot Cake Tins and it has to be said the combination of style and the quality of any Emma Bridgewater product means many a house in the land can boast a piece of Bridgewater. The polka dot design has an enduring appeal and the tins look fabulous in either a contemporary or more traditional setting. The final ‘spotted’ was the Cath Kidston Large Spray Flowers Crush China Mug which is just so pretty and holds a great size cup of tea and allows plenty of dunking space for your digestive biscuit.

New penguin member en route

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

We would just like to say a big hello and welcome to Christine who is joining us at penguin HQ on Monday and will be helping us with your orders.

I am sure she will fit into the team very well as she says she makes a cracking cup of tea…what more can an employer ask for?

Just going to choose a mug for her tea break treat…..think this is probably best to begin with!

We love watching the products we sell turning up in all sorts of tv programmes. Over breakfast at the moment on GMTV we keep spying the Orla Keily mugs which we absolutely love.  The Red Abacus mug is such a lovely on trend retro style.
