Make Your Desk Colourful and Work More Effectively

Friday, September 28th, 2012

If you work in an office you will know how important stationery can be. “Who has pinched my stapler?” and “where have all my pens gone?” are just some of the cries you will hear in the office from time to time. Sometimes there is too much of it and sometimes there is none to be seen. But when it comes to picking out your stationery, you have to go funky don’t you? It adds personality to your work space and character to your desk. It livens up your day sometimes and a charismatic little notepad can make all the difference when jotting down ideas.

Having boring folders, pencils, pens and books just isn’t going to brighten up your day. Having something colourful and bold on your desk will surely lift your spirits. It is a scientific fact that different colours can affect your mood.

Red stimulates the adrenal glands and therefore increases stamina and helps us become strong. Meaning more energy to do more work.

Orange is a positive colour for your emotional state and improves your feeling of self worth. This can help to decrease those ‘depressed feeling days’.

Yellow makes your brain more alert, so next time someone asks you a question, your response time will be quick like a cat.

Green helps you to relax and calms your mood. So no more stressing out over deadlines and targets. Take it easy with the colour green.

Blue is said to lower blood pressure and is classed as a soothing colour. When your feeling a little stressed out why not take it out on your blue pen and start writing rigorously and jot down some interesting ideas.

So the next time your boss offers you stationery, ask for colourful and say it will make you work harder (well that can be the excuse anyway). The Orla Kiely stationery range is the perfect choice as it is designed with plenty of different colours including the above shades.

National Stationery Day

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Today is National Stationery Day! Now I’m not sure who comes up with these themed days but I have to say I love this one as it allows me to wallow in my love of stationery. I don’t like generalising but I have a feeling not many blokes get that excited over stationery but I know lots of women who just love it.

To be able to wander through the likes of Paperchase or the stationery in Liberty’s is just heavenly. The vibrant, quirky and captivating range of notebooks, pencils, pens, files etc is every stationery addicts dream.

Over the years I have collected numerous notebooks that I know I will never use but they look simply gorgeous stacked up. I also have a soft spot for pencils and some of my favourite stationery is from the Classic Penguin book collection as it combines two of my loves, reading and stationery.

Orla Kiely is a fashion designer whose now instantly recognisable prints have appeared on handbags, accessories and homewares throughout her 20 year career span.

Kiely takes inspiration from the geometry she sees in nature and her unique designs are where colour, pattern, graphic control, texture and rhythm continually work and rework together.

We have stocked a number of her mugs in our shop for sometime but it’s her new range of stationery which has really caught our eye this autumn. Her repetitive patterns translate very well onto the notebooks, address book and her storage boxes.  What a gorgeous way to store your CDs and DVDs.
